Enabling the fertilizer industry

Compaction/Granulation of Potash
The illustration above shows a flow sheet for potash with 60% K2O content. Typical for such fertilizers are impact mills that work in a closed loop cycle with multi-deck screens to crush the flakes into granulate of about 2,000 kg/m3 density. In this case, no finishing of the granulate is required, because the properties of the raw materials already allow for good abrasion resistance. For a gross capacity of 80-100 t/h of potash, Köppern has the most commonly used large roller press with 1,100 mm roller diameter and 1,000 mm roller width. This press has a maximum throughput rate of approx. 120 t/h.

The granulate production capacity depends on the properties of the raw material and the desired product grain size, as well as the machine types selected for subsequent crushing and screening. For the most common applications, the yield is between 40 and 50 %, depending on whether floated or crystallized feed is being compacted.

Compaction/Granulation of Mixed Fertilizers
Mixed fertilizers are characterized by the production of a soft and plastic flake. Because the flakeis still soft and must be handled delicately, special roller mills (disc cutters) are used which cut, shear or bend the flakes. It can also be beneficial to age the material in a curing bin prior to crushing.
