Founded in 1898 in Hattingen, Germany, Köppern remains a family-run enterprise reflecting its traditional values of technology leadership and highly dependable manufacturing quality, coupled with a unique regard for the individual needs of its customers.

The company’s history is linked to the utilization of roller presses for briquetting and other compaction applications. Following the introduction of high pressure grinding roller presses (HPGRs) in the 1980s, Köppern successfully expanded into the cement and ore processing industries, building a strong position through innovative press designs such as the C-Frame^® and Hinged-Frame as well as unique powder-metallurgical wear protection systems.

Starting with the HEXADUR^® wear protection system for the cement industry, further product variants have been added to the range, so that in addition to the conventional product solutions, Köppern now offers three branded wear protection solutions for different applications. In each case, the two-part design consists of a wear-protected tire shrink-fitted onto a roller core. Among other advantages, this system allows roller cores to be re-used after the end of the service life of the tires.

• HEXADUR^® tires for HPGRs are widely used in the cement industry. They feature an extremely wear-resistant surface with a high content of hard phases in the form of hexagonal tiles of different thicknesses.
• HYBRIDUR^® tires are especially suited to ore grinding applications in the mining industry. The steel ring is lined with tungsten carbide studs and features extremely durable hot-isostatically pressed (HIP) edge protection.
• RESIDUR^® tires are specifically designed for briquetting applications. The steel ring features a highly resistant, hot-isostacially pressed (HIP) powder-metallurgical surface.

These technological advances have resulted in a significant drop in machine downtime caused by wear and repairs. The resulting rise in productivity, along with a parallel increase in grinding or briquetting efficiency, enables our customers to compete more successfully in their own market segments.
